Israeli Ministry of Health standard regarding metals in water at home

The research on metal finds in the public water network in Israel indicates that the public supply system may contain certain concentrations of metals such as copper, lead, iron and aluminum

The survey carried out by the Ministry of Health and Public Health Laboratories found that in most cases no significant deviations from the standard were found, but there are specific points, mainly in old houses or in water systems where the piping is old, where the metal concentrations exceed the permitted standards.

Regarding copper, the standard level in Israel is 1400 mcg per liter, and it was found that in exceptional cases the concentration of copper may exceed the standard, especially in cases of old metal piping or a hot water system, which tends to increase the release of metals into the water. The study also emphasizes the importance of proper maintenance of plumbing and water fittings, especially in old houses and public institutions, to prevent exposure to metals.

The main recommendations of the Ministry of Health include performing periodic sampling, using plumbing accessories that comply with Israeli standards, and avoiding the consumption of hot water or water that has been standing for a long time in the system
