The structure of the word "water" – a hint at the two worlds
The word "water" is written in an open "ממ" (ממים), with "יוד" in the center and "ממ" (ממים) in a closed "ממ" (ממים) - a shape that symbolizes the separation between the upper waters and the lower waters. "יוד" (מים), which is a symbol of wisdom and divine light, is located between the two worlds and expresses the Creator's act of differentiation: "And He separated between the waters that are above the firmament and the waters that are under the firmament."
Water as a vessel for blessing – only when it is collected
In order for water to be worthy of blessing or purification, it must be collected in a vessel – a pool, a basin or a mikveh. Only then does it transform from physical water into “blessing” water. Here the Hebrew language illuminates the deep connection between “rain” and “fulfillment” – water only gains meaning when it touches the earth, the person who created the vessel to contain it.
The Big Bang, Hydrogen, and Creation
Wisdom – which is water – breaks down in the Big Bang into its components: hydrogen and oxygen. Hydrogen, the first and most basic element, contains the primary unity (1,1,1 – proton, electron, neutron) and from which all other substances in the universe are built. The word “hydrogen” resonates as “mi-man” – the water that man raises with aspiration and prayer, and lowers back to the ground – into the vessel – to fulfill an idea, a prayer, a creation.
Fire from water – how the sun is created
When hydrogen and oxygen come together, fire is created – the purest and most powerful fire. This is the same fire that fuels the sun, also called “Shem-Ashes,” the name of God clothed in the light of the Creator. Consciousness connects the elements of reality – water, fire, air and earth – and rediscovers creation through the understanding, language and tools it creates.
